About Kenny

Kenny was introduced to the game of golf by his father at the age of 9. He then honed his golf skills by playing every chance he got with his Dad, Mom, brother, and friends at the Country Club of Columbus in Columbus, Ga. By the age of 12, he was shooting par and dominating his age division in junior golf tournaments. As a sophomore at Columbus High School, Kenny was a member of the State championship team and finished third individually. Kenny and his family moved to Tallahassee, FL during his junior year and Kenny continued his excellence playing for the Leon High School Lions. He earned a full golf scholarship to attend and compete for the Florida State University Seminoles. Kenny won numerous tournaments during his collegiate career and earned All-American honors in his senior year. After turning professional, Kenny struggled for 7 years before capturing his first PGA Tour victory, the 1986 Honda Classic. He went on to win the 1987 Hardee’s Golf Classic and the 1990 Buick Southern Open.

In 1989 Kenny set 3 all time putting records at the MCI Heritage Classic. He had 8 putts for 9 holes, 18 putts for 18 holes and 93 putts for 72 holes. After finishing 32nd on the 1991 PGA Tour money list, Kenny suffered a back injury in 1992 that would have a negative effect on his career that became too much to overcome. Kenny retired from regular competition in 1995 and opened the Kenny Knox Golf Academy at Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee, FL. Kenny now teaches at the Knox Farm in Monticello, FL and Capital City Country Club in Tallahassee, FL.

Over his career, Kenny was fortunate enough to play with and compete against the greatest golfers of his era. He also had the opportunity to work with many of the world’s most renowned golf instructors. Obviously, Kenny learned a great deal from his experiences with these great professionals. Not only was he able to observe and evaluate the many great golf swings on the PGA Tour, he was able to study the different temperaments that were on display. He realized that golf has a way of humbling even the most confident of personalities. How these individuals handled these situations made a profound impact on the way he handled himself on the golf course.

Kenny’s expertise with the short game and knowledge of the golf swing comes from a lifetime of experience. His many golf lessons from the world’s finest instructors give him the kind of knowledge that many people can only dream about. Kenny feels that his successful career gives him an advantage that most instructors cannot offer. Kenny’s passion for helping people is perhaps the one thing that gives him a thrill that compares to winning golf tournaments.

Kenny currently lives in Monticello, FL with his wife, Karen and teaches golf at Knox Farm in Monticello, FL and Capital City Country Club in Tallahassee, FL.  – giving back to the game that has been so good to him. He particularly enjoys the time he gets to spend with young people by helping them become the most complete player possible. Kenny’s philosophy in golf is “never underestimate the desire of a person’s heart.”
